When asked what his chances of winning Canada’s first gold medal (on Canadian soil), Alexandre Bilodeau said, “I would bet a lot of money on the first day. I know somebody is going to do it before me.”
After he won the First Gold Medal for Canada he said,  “It’s too good to be true! There are more golds to come for Canada. It’s just the beginning of a good party in Canada.â€
“It’s been a dream since I was a little kid, and it’s come true,†said Bilodeau.
And his inspiration, he added, has remained the same since those days. Bilodeau teared up as he spoke of his 28-year-old brother seated nearby. Frederic Bilodeau has cerebral palsy.
His comeback to the mountaintop was a tale of moral courage, Bilodeau explained — not his own, but it was that of his brother, Frederic, whom he called “my inspiration.â€
“Growing up with handicapped people puts everything in perspective — he taught me so many things in my life,†Bilodeau said. “I’ve got everything on my side. Everything was perfect.â€
